Background
Graeme has been employed in the legal sector, specifically litigation for over 15 years. Whilst the early part of his career focused on substantive litigation, the majority of Graeme’s career thus far has been dedicated to costs. Graeme has been with Kain Knight since 2019 as a Senior Associate and prior to that worked for several well-established costs practices.
Current Role & Responsibilities
Graeme has developed a specialism in commercial work and has a busy practice in this sector. Graeme also maintains a practice in clinical negligence and serious injury; also playing a pivotal role in securing a new client for the firm in this sector.
Graeme is routinely instructed on a wide spectrum of high level and complex disputes, including those arising from £multi-billion litigation in the High Court, or in £multi-million tax disputes with costs assessments from the High Court, Court of Appeal and in the Supreme Court. In addition, Graeme has been instructed in matters in the DIFC, the Cayman Islands and the CJEU. Graeme is also regularly instructed in complex and hard-fought Solicitor Act Assessments arising from underlying commercial disputes, recently in values ranging from £600k-£2m+. Beyond that, Graeme has experience of costs arising from arbitration, other tribunals and in Director Disqualification Proceedings.
On several occasions, Graeme has been called upon to provide specific written detailed advice in support of a client’s application to the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) in the pursuit of specific licences for the provision of legal services to sanctioned individuals.
Graeme has gained significant experience in all aspects of the costs litigation process from preparing bills of costs, points of dispute/replies and engaging in advocacy at CMC’s and detailed assessments. Graeme also engages in ADR with and/or on behalf of his clients.

Interests
Most of Graeme’s time away from the world of costs is spent with his young family and 2 dogs. Graeme is a keen rugby fan, is a member of the England Rugby Supporters Club, and so can be found at Twickenham regularly during the Autumn and Spring.
