Background
Upon leaving school, Joanna started her career in the legal costs profession with Stephens & Scown Solicitors within their in-house costs department as a Trainee Costs Draftsperson. After 4 years she moved to Stevens Solicitors in Haverhill, Suffolk as their in-house Costs Draftsperson before returning to Cornwall to work with various firms of independent Law Costs Draftsman, gaining experience in all aspects of Family Law/Legal Aid /Court of Protection work until starting her own costing business, JR Costing Services at the age of 30. Joanna took a break from costing at the age of 40 to pursue a career in interior design and working with adults with learning disabilities until May 2021 when she started work as a Law Costs Draftsperson for Kain Knight St Austell.
Joanna has extensive experience of preparing Court of Protection Bills of Costs including Short Form Bills of Costs and advising clients as to the outcome of the assessment. Joanna has prepared Bills for Costs for matters with multi-million pound estates and has a keen eye for detail thereby ensuring the client’s recovery is maximised and the best result is achieved without having to seek a review of the assessment.
