Current Role & Responsibilities
Mark started his costs career in 2001 and quickly developed a strong reputation in the recovery of costs, particularly in high-value personal injury and clinical negligence matters.
A strong advocate, Mark represented a client in his first Detailed Assessment Hearing after just 6 months!
Mark has always dealt with his costs cases from the outset and throughout, providing initial costs / funding advice, dealing with Costs Management, preparing Bills of Costs / Replies, costs negotiations and attending Detailed Assessment Hearings.
A strong negotiator, Mark is able to settle the majority of his cases but is fully prepared to justify claims for costs at Detailed Assessment, if so advised.
Mark successfully qualified as an Associate of the Association of Law Costs Draftsman (ALCD as it what then known) in 2007, becoming a Fellow (FALCD) in 2009 and becoming one of the first Costs Lawyers in 2010.
Mark’s previous positions include Head of Clinical Negligence at a specialist costs firm, and Company Director. Mark set up and ran a successful costs company with offices in London, Bristol and Gloucester for 10 years, before selling his business to establish and head up an in-house Personal Injury / Clinical Negligence Costs Department at a well-known and respected law firm in Shrewsbury. Mark joined Kain Knight in May 2020 and has retained strong relationships with his long-standing clients for over 20 years, which is testament to his attention to detail and high level of client care.

Interests
Outside of work Mark is married to Emilie with two children, Millie and Freddie. A former professional footballer with Bristol Rovers FC, Mark is now a qualified Level 2 football coach and has managed football teams at various levels in his local county of Gloucestershire. Before age, injuries (and life) took its toll, Mark participated in sports to include football and cricket and continues to enjoy a round of golf now and again, when he gets time! Mark is a season ticket holder at Manchester United FC and (sometimes) enjoys watching them play throughout the season.
