Nick McDonnell publishes new book on the interaction between vulnerability and legal costs
Kain Knight is delighted to announce the publication of A Practitioner’s Guide to Vulnerability & Costs: Ensuring Access to Justice in Modern Civil Litigation & Beyond, written by Director and Costs Lawyer, Nick McDonnell and published by Law Brief Publishing.
With almost 30 years’ experience in civil litigation, Nick is a recognised authority on legal costs. His new book addresses an important issue for the legal profession: ensuring that the additional time, skill and care required to represent vulnerable clients are properly recognised and that the associated legal costs are fairly accounted for and recovered.
Combining legal analysis with practical guidance, the book explores identifying vulnerability, recording and justifying necessary additional work, and applying the rules on reasonableness, proportionality, fixed recoverable costs and detailed assessment.
Nick’s book is available from Law Brief Publishing, here.
