Background
Gemma began her career in costs with Complete Cost Consultants Ltd in 2004 as a trainee. In 2009 Gemma completed the training Course to become an Associate of Law Costs Draftsman and then in 2011 successfully passed the qualifying examination to become a Cost Lawyer with rights of audience. Gemma undertook a wide variety of work during this time, including personal injury, clinical negligence, Legal Aid, Court of Protection and Actions Against the Police.
In 2017, Gemma formed her own Cost Law firm GB Costing, specialising in the recovery of costs in Civil Liberties matters including actions against the police and state and in historical abuse matters. During this period Gemma also undertook Court of Protection work as a consultant for Kain Knight in the St Austell office.
In 2022, Gemma made the decision to move to Kain Knight full time.
Gemma has over 15 years’ experience dealing with the recovery of costs in Court of Protection matters. This includes applications to appoint Deputies, General Management and Statutory Will applications. Gemma has embraced the pilot scheme for the filing of bills in respect of general management and other applications in electronic spreadsheet format and is championing the implementation as an effective way to make the billing process more efficient and transparent.
Gemma has considerable experience dealing with a wide range of civil liberties matters, regularly acting to recover the costs in lengthy Inquest and complaint proceedings and complex litigation and has in-depth knowledge and extensive experience of working in these areas and often in high profile matters.

Education & Qualifications
Gemma qualified as a Cost Lawyer in 2011.
Gemma also has a BA Hons Degree in Philosophy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Archival Administration.
Interests
Outside of work Gemma enjoys spending time with her family, walking, reading and evenings on the beach.
