Role & Responsibilities
Ashton’s training as a Costs Draftsman commenced in 1999. In January 2007 he was admitted as an Associate of the then Association of Law Costs Draftsman and subsequently a Fellow in January 2009. Ashton was subsequently admitted as a Costs Lawyer in January 2011.
Areas of expertise;-
- Preparation of Bills of Costs
- Points of Dispute
- Replies to Points of Dispute
- Detailed Assessment hearings and negotiating settlement on behalf of receiving/paying parties.
- Costs budgeting including Preparing Precedent H and attending Costs Management Conferences whether in person or by telephone.
- Ashton has also attended County Courts/High Court on numerous occasions.

Notable Cases
From 2008-2010 Ashton undertook work on behalf of the Irish Government in relation to the high profile Commission to Enquire into Child Abuse in Republic of Ireland.

- Gary Minkin v Cawdery Kaye Fireman & Taylor (2011) EWHC 177(QB).

Interests
Ashton’s early career prior to entering the costs profession was working for Radio Luxembourg in their record-programming department. He went on to become a vocalist for numerous bands and ultimately supporting well known artists such as The Jam, David Bowie and Extreme to name but a few.
Outside of work these days Ashton’s interests are music and following Manchester United. He also enjoys travelling (Ashton owns a 1978 VW Camper named Freddie and enjoys going all over the country in him in the summer months) and going to the cinema.
