Considering the wider implications of Various Claimants v Associated Newspapers Limited

In the aftermath of the high-profile privacy case against Associated Newspapers, Matthew Kain, Colin Campbell and Nick McDonnell have been invited to share their perspectives on some of the wider implications of the costs ruling.

Colin was quoted in the New Law Journal about the significance of the indemnity costs order and the scrutiny Associated Newspapers’ £34.5m costs claim could face, while Matthew considered the arguments likely to arise over the reasonableness of the costs claimed.

In Law360, Colin examined the significance of the indemnity costs order more broadly, including the application of the existing legal test and the order’s effect on Associated Newspapers’ approved costs budget.

Meanwhile, Nick was asked by City AM about the potential implications for the ATE insurance market, including whether greater exposure to indemnity costs could ultimately feed through into higher premiums. His comments were subsequently reported by Insurance Business.

The coverage can be found in New Law Journal, Law360, City AM and Insurance Business.
