Role & Responsibilities
Chris began his career working as a Paralegal for a leading local firm of Solicitors – Tees Law – where he gained invaluable experience working under Partners in their Personal Injury, Employment and Private Client departments.
Chris moved to Kain Knight in 2002, where he was immediately thrust into the “costs wars” which developed at that time, in relation to Conditional and Collective Conditional Fee Agreements. This required him to undertake complex advocacy at a very early stage in his costs-career.
Chris was then instrumental in developing Law Costs Solutions in 2003– a specialist firm dedicated to providing a cradle-to-grave costs service to Claimant only personal injury firms.
Chris progressed through the firm and qualified as a Fellow of the Association of Costs Lawyers, achieving one of the highest exam results in the country in doing so. Shortly thereafter, Chris qualified as a Costs Lawyer.
Now a Team Manager and Associate, Chris specialises in Medical Negligence and High Value Catastrophic Injury cases, more often than not involving highly complex issues and multi-million pound settlements, such as claims involving children who are brain damaged at birth.
Chris has also embraced the recent move towards Costs Budgeting and has prepared Costs Budgets ranging from £50,000 to £1.5 million, also attending a number of CCMC hearings in the High Court and Courts below as part of the budgeting process.
- NX (A protected party by his mother and litigation friend OY) –v- ANEURIN BEVAN UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD – complex and high value maximum-severity baby brain injury case. Damages of £3 million + periodical payments thereafter
- ABC and DEF –v- OXFORD UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS TRUST – case involving extremely severe disabilities at birth following failure to detect fetal abnormalities, together with psychiatric claims for the parents. Damages of £4.2 million awarded
